Whale Tales: Watercolour & Wines

Ahoy! Welcome to Whale Tales.

A workshop centred on whales, watercolours, wines, and stories from the deep. Learn painting techniques through depicting our favourite gentle giants of the sea - from a certified Whale Whisperer.

Set in a cottage garden studio in the heritage-listed seaside village of Catherine Hill Bay, our class is a fusion of art and adventure talks.

Our class is open to all levels and all are welcome. From beginners to advanced. All in a fun and judgement-free zone. I’ll walk you through step-by-step so no need to worry and you can go at your own pace … some of my favourite parts have been seeing people discover that they are, indeed, creative.

At the end of the class, you will get to leave with your own creation to take home.
As we do focus on practice more than outcome and we are working with watercolour, you may need or want to make some additions to it at home too.

ABOUT YOUR ART GUIDE

Hey, I’m Kate. I’m a multi-disciplinary artist and wildlife photography guide that has a passion for the wild and connecting into nature, ourself and with each other through art, adventure, nature, and a good dance floor.

Like many other people, whales hold a special place in my heart. So much so, I moved to the Pacific island nation of Niue to work as a Whale Whisperer for a spell, leading whale swims and courses. This, of course, spilled into my art and those experiences are part of the creations and also part of the class.

MY ART PHILOSOPHY

I truly believe that we all have the power to create - there’s nothing I love more than seeing people light up when they tap into that and to realise the potential we all have inside.

Art is very much about being able to un-trick our brain to see - and I will teach you techniques that have been passed down through my family of artists and that we have shared with hundreds of our students over the years - to help bring this out for you too. Art is very much an immersive and a sensory experience and I like this to be a part of the class too.

* 2.5 hour class of art tutoring, practice and story-telling.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING
We’ll send you some more details beforehand, but you are welcome to BYO snacks, wine or bevy of choice - particularly nice to sip on while watching the sunset go down over the mountain in between splashing paint on the page.

If you have your own paints you are welcome to bring these too.

I advise wearing old clothes that you don’t mind getting paint on (as it is a working studio). Or dedicating some nice ones as your artist clothes ;)

ABOUT THE CLASS SIZE
Classes are now limited to 6, and kept small so that you get the opportunity to have 1-on-1 time throughout the evening.
